The Currently Reading Book Tag
This is not an original tag!
I am currently reading five different books! That’s a lot for me, but I think I got the art of reading more than one book down. I’ve evolved as a reader!
QUESTION 1: How many books do you usually read at once?
>> Before now, I used to only read one book at a time. It wasn’t until this year that I figured out how to read more than one. It’ll take me longer to finish a book, but at least I’m making progress, and switching stories actually keeps me out of reading slump. Before it would just shatter my focus, and cause a slump.
QUESTION 2: How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?
>> It really depends what kind of book I’m reading. The memoir I’m reading, Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry, is a “timed session” read, where I set a timer for an hour and see how many chapters I can get read (they are short chapters and I’m taking notes for a review).
>> When it comes to middle grade novel I’m reading, Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo & K.G. Campbell, it’s strictly my “in bed read”. Can’t fall asleep? Instead of scrolling social media, read a book!
>> When it comes to the graphic novel I’m reading, Saga, volume 2 by Brian K. Vaughan, it’s a refresher read. It’s what I read if I feel myself bored with my other reads. The last two books I mentioned are Libby loans, so there is a some urgency to get them read, but I’m taking it little by little. Reading isn’t a race.
>> The two novels I’m reading, I alternate every couple chapters. I’m surprised by how well it’s been working. It probably helps that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is super familiar with me. I haven’t read the book in like fifteen years or something, but I know the story. Crave by Tracy Wolff is the new content.
QUESTION 3: Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?
>> No, each physical book I’ve started has some kind of marker in it. I only own two bookmarks, but the rest of the books have blank note cards in them.
QUESTION 4: Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?
>> Currently, they are sitting in piles both on and next to my desk. I read ebooks, so technically I carry at least one book with me everywhere (which works well when I am not home and need something to keep me occupied).
QUESTION 5: What time of the day do you read the most?
>> Late afternoon into the evening before bed.
QUESTION 6: How long do you typically read in one session?
>> An hour or two at the very least.
QUESTION 7: Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?
>> I didn’t used to until this year. It just makes things easier.
QUESTION 8: What position do you mainly use to read?
>> I used to sit on my couch and read, but this year I decided to read at my desk instead. I like having a sturdy surface to lay my book on, and the sitting up position keeps me from wanting to nod off (I get fatigued easily).
QUESTION 9: Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?
>> No, I read primarily at home. I will sometimes read an ebook while sitting in the car, or in between social events.
QUESTION 10: How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?
>> All the time! I like being able to keep a detailed history and record of my reading. I also use a physical notebook, and a sticky pad app on my desktop to keep record as well.
