Bookish Wonders

October Reading Wrap Up |2020

I read five books in the month of October! Four novels, and one graphic novel! Two of the books were re-reads, and very much needed!

The Elite (The Selection #2) & The One (The Selection #3)

Summary of The Selection:

My thoughts on The Elite and The One:
It was awesome to finish my re-read of The Selection trilogy. They were quick reads, and I loved being engrossed in that world again. It also reminded me how much I enjoy reading certain kind of romance. If you’re in a reading slump, and want something addicting to get sucked into, definitely pick up The Selection series!
I read paperback physical copies that was already in my collection!

My thoughts on Anne of Green Gables: The Graphic Novel:
I absolutely love the story of Anne of Green Gables! I was first introduced to it when I watched Anne with an E on Netflix. I know it’s much different from the original story, as the writers decided to divert from the books. I later then watched two out of the three Anne of Green Gables movies from the 1980s with Megan Follows. It’s a charming story, and the art of this graphic novel were absolutely beautiful. It was a quick read as well, as a lot of graphic novels are.
I read this for free off of the Libby app!

ATTENTION: BELOW ARE SPOILERS FOR “CRUSH”. THE SECOND BOOK TO “CRAVE” BY TRACY WOLFF. SCROLL PAST IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED!

My Thoughts on Crush:
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH, OH MY GOSH! This was the sequel to CRAVE, and I wasn’t expecting to love it so much. I can’t wait for the third book to come out in March of 2021. Crave ended on an epic cliff hanger, and I devoured Crush. It had mystery, suspense, romance, and a lot more action than the first book. Tracy Wolff has become a new favorite author of mine. If you enjoy supernatural boarding schools in books, give this series a try. What starts off as a “Twilight knock-off” turned into something completely it’s own. I already can’t wait to re-read this series as a whole once all of the books are out.
I read this book from my own physical collection!

My thoughts on House of Salt and Sorrows:
This was the book club pick for my online book club, Read With Me.
This is a young adult horror retelling of Twelve Dancing Princesses. It was quite clever! Me and the other gals enjoyed reading this! There were parts of the book that could have been better, but as a debut novel it did very well! I will be keeping an eye on this author and see what else she does. Trigger warnings for gore, topics of suicide, and family grief.
I read this book from my own physical collection!

Thrilled with the books I read in October! All were five stars, and all physical books are currently sitting on my Favorite Read shelves! I know I won’t be reading much in November because of NaNoWriMo (my honest attempt at it, I guess), but that’s alright. Though, my TBR shelves are judging me as always. Thank you for reading! I hope I inspired you try these stories out some day!
