Bookish Wonders

March Reading Wrap Up | 2022

Hello and welcome! I had an excellent reading month in March! I read ten books, and it’s all thanks to me getting back into audiobooks! I finished two trilogies, read three stand alone stories, one sequel, and started another trilogy by reading the first book. Let’s get into it!

Tunnel of Bones & Bridge of Souls: books two and three in the Cassidy Blake trilogy by Victoria Schwab!
I read the first book in February, and then decided to keep things going and finish up the trilogy in March. It’s a goal of mine to read everything of Victoria/V.E. Schwab’s! I really enjoyed this trilogy. It was a quick read, but also spooky and perfect for those who enjoy reading about ghosts (obviously). There’s never a wrong time to read a spooky book in my opinion, so I highly recommend this series!

This is a fantasy stand alone I really enjoyed. It was a f|f romance, and focused on love, emotions, and what we view as priorities in life. I think the two main characters had great chemistry, and it was an over all fun read. I’m trying to read more stand alone books, but it’s not always easy to find fantasy stand alone books that sound interesting to me. Everything is a series now of days haha

Ok, so, this took me a month to read. This isn’t me saying it was bad, because it wasn’t. I started reading this when I transferred jobs, and my new one is more demanding than my last one (but I love it). So when I was reading this book, I was always super tired and not able to focus on reading. I did read this as a physical book, so it requires more of me than an audiobook. With that out of the way… I loved this book.
The first half seemed kind of slow to me, it just felt like a repeat formula of the first book. But when things changed it was fast moving, and kept me hooked the entire time. Our characters developed more, and society norms get challenged. There is a rebellion, missing person, crazy twists and turns…and I kid you not: the BEST Sarah J Maas ending I’ve ever read (and I’ve read now 15 books by this woman). I SCREAMED and gasped, and oh my gods I can’t wait for the next book! It’s going to be… out of this world 😉
I read this as a physical hardcover!

The Hunger Games + Catching Fire + Mockingjay:
I had absolutely no interest in this series for years, and to be quite honest I still had no interest when I read it for the first time. I read it because both my sister and my friend wanted me to read them. They were very passionate about it. I’m glad I did read them, because I enjoyed this series a lot! I knew it was going to be somewhat dark, so that wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was how invested I got into the characters even though the books weren’t that long. Peet and Prim were my favorite characters, and I also understood why people like Katniss so much. She’s just flawed enough to seem realistic.

Ok ok, so this book had been sitting on my Libby holds for literal months. I waited months for it, and then kept re-scheduling the delivery. I’m so glad I finally took the time to read it, though! I’m really coming around to contemporary novels at this point in my reading career, and that really excites me. I was completely invested in this story from start to finish. I loved having a bi main character, and loved the friendship dynamics, and how the main character also had a trans sibling. I love books where the author makes queer and trans humans a normal everyday thing without the harmful phobias attached. I know some people it’s not “realistic”, but life is real enough. This is the book world, give me how the world SHOULD BE. Let me escape to that for awhile. But anyway, this book was hilarious, and fun, and romantic as fuck. I HIGHLY recommend this rom com stand alone!

So listen, this trilogy has sat on my TBR shelf for like six years. I bought all three on a date night with my husband, the first year we were married. This trilogy somehow survived countless book purges, and spring cleanings. But I’m glad it did, because I really enjoyed reading this first book in March. As I’m writing this, I’m currently reading the last book. I’m not a big sci-fi person, but luckily this series is a very scaled back sci-fi. Mostly focused on the romance, but does have a main plot that goes through the entire trilogy (so read them in order!). But this first book was fun, and kind of spooky at times. It has this mystery element, and I was hooked from beginning to end.

I finally read a Christmas themed book! Anyone who knows me would probably be shocked to hear that before March, I had never read a book (in my spare time for fun) that took place during Christmas time (in my adult life). But I finally did it, and it wasn’t during Christmas time – it was at the beginning of spring. Which, honestly, I think during the year is the perfect time to read these books. Because during the holiday season, there is so much happening. There is so much shopping, gatherings, movies being watched, baking to holiday music and so on. My reading goes right down the drain once November starts. So, I have decided that I am going to read these cute Christmas rom coms during the year to keep my mental health up, AND be able to have books to recommend come the holiday season to my other bookish friends. But, now on to my thoughts on the book:
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. I knew it was going to be one of those fluffy romances, but it took awhile to get there. There was a lot of humor, and strained moments that the main character had to work out. The romance wasn’t instant, it took time. And there was also some f|f representation as well. A strained friendship thrown in, which was sad, but hey it’s the holidays. This will absolutely be a book I would re-read in the future.
I recommend this to any Christmas loving rom com readers!

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my March Reading Wrap Up for 2022! Hoping to have another fun reading month in April! We have started house hunting, though, so we’ll see. Happy reading!
