February Reading Wrap Up | 2021
Welcome! Today I will be diving into the five books I read in February! I have been devouring tomes so far this year, or books 400 pages or longer, so I’m pleased that I have been able to finish the amount of books I have so far. I am now 20% finished with my reading challenge for the year (50 books). It feels good to make progress towards a goal, and absolutely love the books I’m reading! February was a successful reading month because all books were either 4 or 5 stars! I loved everything I read. So, let’s dive into it.
Glass Sword & King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
MY THOUGHTS:
I’m so thrilled that I have come to love this series so much. Especially since I bought the entire boxed set on a whim (ha!). I’m completely invested in the characters and their fates. This series has high stakes, you don’t know who to trust, love the magic powers thrown in, and how important relationships and freedom is. I’m excited to read the conclusion to this series in March!
>> Glass Sword Thoughts: this was a slow building book, but the end of it had me reeling. I couldn’t wait to pick up King’s Cage after that!
>> King’s Cage Thoughts: This is my favorite book in the series so far! We got to have a closer look at our main antagonist, which I love. I love getting up close and personal with the “villain” of the story. I love the suspense of not knowing what’s going to happen when they lose their temper, and have the resources they have. I love seeing how twisted they are, and seeing other characters’ reactions to it. This book truly shows that monsters are made, not born. I know the final book in the series, War Storm, is going to be absolutely wild and I’m so excited to read it!
A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer
SPOILERS IN THE DESCRIPTION BELOW IF YOU HAVE NEVER READ IT!
MY THOUGHTS:
This is the third and final book in the Cursebreakers trilogy! I really enjoyed reading this! I like how the author brought all four POV together to wrap up this story. It was balanced really well, and I was able to fully engage with each change of POV. This book is more character driven like the first book, which I was hoping to happen. The only thing I wish I saw, was what was going to happen with two particular characters. There wasn’t really an answer of “what happens now” with them. I feel like it get glossed over. Other than that, I really enjoyed this series. It starts off as a Beauty and the Beast re-telling, and then becomes it’s own. It’s all currently sitting on my Favorites shelf, so I do plan on reading it again sometime in the future. Yes, I do recommend it if you enjoy character driven re-tellings, and romance.
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
MY THOUGHTS:
This was my Read With Me (book club) pick for February! This book was recommended by my very good friend Ruth. I have been in the book community for awhile now, and when I entered the community The Raven Cycle series was very popular. I think the last book of the four book series was just released when I started reading again. So, I was at least familiar with the series.
I enjoyed this book a lot! I like how it wasn’t what I expected it to be. I love how character driven this was. Those have become my favorite kind of books. Plot driven books are face paced and great, but my favorite part of reading is my connection to the characters, and watching them grow.
I like how it is magic surrealism, and how the group of characters are relentless with finding out more constantly. I like how there is a sort of suspense with not knowing if Blue will end up killing her true love by kissing him (as it’s not revealed in this book!). This plot actually driven by the groups joint quest to find something extremely exciting and valuable. There was very little romance in this book, only tender innocent moments. It was refreshing!
I will be reading the second book in March!
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas
MY THOUGHTS:
I adored this book. I sobbed frequently. I laughed. I cheered Nesta on. I fell in love with Cassian. I felt at home being with all of my favorite characters again. I’m so glad Sarah J Maas decided to continue with this series after A Court of Wings and Ruin. I’m so glad she couldn’t rest until she told everyone’s stories, starting with Nesta and Cassian. This has become my new favorite A Court of Thorns and Roses book. I never thought a book would knock A Court of Mist and Fury out of the #1 spot for me, but Silver Flames did that! I want to cry just thinking about this book.
Sarah J Maas showed us the deepest and darkest corners of depression and self loathing. She showed the result of grief, and trauma, and the heart of someone who struggles with anger. Someone who lashes out and uses words as a weapon, and what is happening in their hearts when those moment happens. She showed the character growth of starting to love yourself so you can properly love others. She showed how fucking difficult it is to try and improve yourself when you don’t believe in yourself, and feel as though everyone in the world hates you. This book was a piece of art, and I will never not love it. There being a crazy about of sex scenes was also fun, but surprisingly not my favorite part of the book. Five out of five stars for this absolutely amazing book. I know when I re-read it again the future, it’s going to be even more magical.
Well, there you go! There were all of the books I read in the month of February! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read my post today! I will see you next month for my March Reading Wrap Up | 2021!
